The UC Irvine Libraries provide wireless network access to the Internet for UCI students, faculty and staff. Wireless network access is provided as part of UCInet Mobile Access Service, a joint effort of the UCI Libraries and the Office of Information Technology (OIT). This service promotes wireless computing among students and faculty on campus for education and research.
The Social Network Visualizer project released today a brand new version of our favorite social network analysis and visualization software application. SocNetV version 2.4, released on Feb 28, is a major upgrade bringing lots of new features. The new version is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from the Downloads page. Oct 24, 2019 MAC. The best way to run UCINET on a Mac is to use a Windows emulator such as Parallels (or, of course, Bootcamp). However, it is (often) possible to run UCINET on a Mac using Wine. For more information, see this FAQ. Be ready with the software installed in your portable computer by monday 28th when we will start work on it. The UC Irvine Libraries provide wireless network access to the Internet for UCI students, faculty and staff. Wireless network access is provided as part of UCInet Mobile Access Service, a joint effort of the UCI Libraries and the Office of Information Technology (OIT). The program we will be using to demonstrate concepts and run analyses during the lab, UCINET, is a windows program. It does not run on Macs without some form of Windows emulation. Mac users wishing to use UCINET are encouraged to install a full Windows emulator, such as Parallels or VMware Fusion. You can draw a social network (graph/digraph) or load an existing one (GraphML, UCINET, Pajek, etc), compute cohesion, centrality, community and structural equivalence metrics and apply various layout algorithms based on actor centrality or prestige scores (i.e. Eigenvector, Betweenness) or on dynamic models (i.e. Kamada-Kawai spring-embedder).

Installing UCINET on MAC machine
#6462 I am asking students to install UCINET for my course. However, students using MAC seem encounter problem during installation although they read instruction on UCINET sites. I am not MAC user and I do not know hoe to help them. 'I tried to open the software UCINET withWine Bottler and X11 in my MacBook Air again last night, but in vain. Apple told me that the button 'Anywhere' for installation of softwarewas no longer available for new series of MacBook and that was why failure ofopening of UCINET. May I know if other methods for fixing theinstallation problems?' Does anyone know how to fix it? Thank you. Josie Lam |
#6463 I used this work around in a 2017 class so I dont know if it still is effective. I teach SNA and have Mac users in the class. So I got a MacBook Pro to see how to use UCINET in that environment. Below is what I have come up with so far. It uses an Oracle utility called VirtualBox.
